What advice would you offer someone getting into marketing in this landscape?

Become a Subject Matter Expert in topics outside of marketing.

Ultimately, marketing is about communication, technology, psychology and meeting business needs. You’re so much better equipped to tackle that if you can strategically think from a perspective that’s not limited to a marketing silo.

What are the most common misconceptions about martech?

The most common misconception about martech is that it’s all new or unique.

There are absolutely incredible breakthroughs occurring. However, so many aspects of the ecosystem are variations on a common theme.

It’s essential to develop an expert-level understanding of the tools available in the space so that you can make informed decisions about what you specifically need to accomplish your goals.

Do you think the intersection of marketing and technology is currently having or will have an impact on women in the industry? How so?

Women’s professional skills can often (unfortunately) be profiled as more communicative or interpersonal — a perception which can put us at a disadvantage in an industry that’s becoming synonymous with technology.

But that can and is being changed by all the incredible women showing extraordinary innovation and expertise in everything from coding to executive marketing leadership.
